Rummy Games

Is known to be a basic or straight Rummy. It first appeared in the US in the early 1900' and it has been called by different names such as Coon Can, Khun Khan and Colonel. The story of how it started is uncertain, though some think that it came from a Mexico and was basically called Conquian it's known to be the earliest Rummy game in the West.

Object:

To meld other's card by laying off and discarding cards.

Melds, Lay Off and Discards:

The two types of Melds:

  • Sequences - three or more cards in the same suit.
  • Groups - three or more cards of the same rank.

Laying off is adding a card to a meld while playing face up.

Discards means Players needs to discard one card and place it on the discard pile after every turn.
The Deal

The first to deal was chosen randomly, then pass to the left. If there are two players each one will have 10 cards, three or four will get seven and six cards for more than four players.

The card is turned face up in the discard pile while the remaining will be put face down. Shuffling is necessary before each deal starts.

Playing:

The player beside the dealer's left is the lead. Then, each player will start drawing a card from the top of the stock pile, each of them can play meld or lay off. One meld can only be played per turn. You cannot discard the card that has been on the top of the discard pile, if the stock runs out of card the pile will be turned face down then form a new stock.

Scoring:

In Rummy after a player goes out the remaining players will add up the value of the card that are not melded and not been shown. Aces has a one point value while other cards are worth 10 points each. The total points will be added to the score of the winner.

Finishing:

The player who has the highest number of points will be declared as the winner. The game will always come to an end when all the players are out and only one is left.
